Week Twelve

Well, this blog is going to start as a small rant about our current situation at the Graduate House. Does anyone remember me almost eating a worm a few weeks ago? To recap, I got saltines out of my cupboard, ate a four or five crackers, and as I brought the last one to my mouth, a little worm dropped onto the paper I was reading. (The cracker I was chewing also joined the worm on my paper.) Well, the Ukraine woman next door found her cupboard infested with them two days ago. She's quite a loud talker normally, so you should have heard her yell. Most of her food wasn't sealed, so the bugs got into everything! Later that night, someone noticed that a small colony of cocoons was living in the corner above of cupboards. Isn't that lovely? I could continue this kitchen rant by complaining once again how I practically ruined food while attempting to cook for our friends, but all I will say is, "I hate that contraption that calls itself an oven!"

Instead, I will move onto the bathroom and specifically the toilet situation. No, this isn't going to be a continuance of the half and full flush story. For the last few months, there have been infrequent occurrences of people urinating on the women's toilet seat and not cleaning up after themselves. It was just every so often, so no one really got too upset. However, it is now happening once or twice a week. The RAs and most of our hall think we know who is the culprit, but how do you accuse someone of such a thing. Our poor deputy RA from Columbia has tried to fix the situation by calling meetings as soon as a sighting occurs, but she's now going to try going directly to the source of the problem. Have I mentioned that I am so glad that Karl and I live in shared housing?

It really isn't that bad. In fact, it's an overall positive experience, but some days it a bit frustrating. In other news, Karl and I are quite excited that Karl is working. Thankfully, he received his tax file number today, so his employer won't be taking 47% from his paycheck. Unfortunately, Karl learned that coaching the national gridiron team in Sydney will be costing us $730 each. This includes accommodation, meals and a warm-up suit, but it does not the extra three days we're staying in Sydney nor our plane tickets. This is in addition to the $550 each we'll be paying for our stay in Brisbane. Yieshers! (As Carol would say.)

Well, now that I've disgusted you and reminded you how poor Karl and I are, I'll let you continue with your day. Think of Karl this weekend as his team plays it's first game on Sunday morning. Did we ever mention that he will be playing QB? I'll take plenty of pictures, don't worry:) In honor of Karl's upcoming, exciting weekend and my new found motivation towards schoolwork, he will be serving as the guest columnist next Wednesday. Until then, you'll have to get your Karl fix through email just as many of you did last week. For the record, any mention of what I think or say is an absolute lie. I don't even watch Cheers, let alone know who's in the cast.

Cheers,
Britt
