Week 17: A Great Week in Sport
This past week has been a great week in sport (and yes I meant to leave the s off in sports b/c Aussies do it that way). Karl's team finally won their first game, and they cleaned house, 74-0. Karl scored 2 touchdowns himself, threw for 4, and ran for 3 2-pt conversions (totaling 42 points scored by Karl). Four other TD's came from the other team's last three offensive series in which we intercepted the ball and ran for the TD. Three times in a row! AND, our players were under strict instructions not to purposely score. It was kind of sad actually for the other team. Claire started cheering for them. The rest of us didn't.
In other sport news, one of my dad's athletes came in 5th at the NCAA Championships in CA, earning himself All-America honors in the discus. Raigo (he's from Estonia-a country near Russia for those of you who aren't as good at geography as me) also has been named WKU male athlete of the year. It hasn't been announced yet, so don't tell anyone:) My dad also shot a 77 while playing golf with my uncle who is a former Fla State Uni track & field coach. Terry also has big news that he didn't tell anyone for months. In September he's being inducted into the FSU Athletic Hall of Fame, joining my grandfather and other lesser known people like Lee Corso and Burt Reynolds.
Our final sport news isn't really sport news at all. Derek Forester FINALLY proposed to Laura Allen last Tuesday. We're very excited for them. Come to think of it, even though he's out kicked his coverage, he might finally score. SO, this could be sport news....
Well, after that comment, I'm officially uninvited to be a bridesmaid. I've finished my last paper. (Feel free to start jumping up and down and wildly cheering.) We've also expanded our eating habits. Monday night we said farewell to our favorite American couple in Australia by going to a Nepalese place. I tried goat curry, and Karl liked it. Then, I went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner to celebrate the end of the semester with some Chinese classmates tonight. I ate scallop and almost puked (not really, but I could have if asked). Then, we had Peking duck. It was okay, but I'm just not good at Chinese food. The evening got lots better when the main course of plum chicken and fruit salad for dessert arrived. To top it off, there was no fortune cookie! I guess that's just Americans stereotyping Chinese dinners. The meal really was lovely because of the piano player and nice company!
I don't really have much to say. I've been writing a lot and Karl's been coaching a lot. This weekend is my Adelaide trip. All day winery and Kangaroo Island tours, here I come! Karl has another game, we hope they'll win, but we know they won't since I just wrote that. Check out the pictures b/c I've got one of the half flush symbols:)

I almost forgot!!!!
WORD OF THE WEEK
Fair dinkum. We first heard this phrase when we were in Tassie. Melissa was paying for our campsite when she told the lady that we were getting up for Easter service the next morning. The lady responded "fair dinkum." We didn't know if it had a religious connotation or what. We later found out that it is similar to "really?", "no kidding", "gee wiz", "hell's bells", "holy smokes", "why I never", "are you serious?", "no shit", "I'm serious" etc. As you can tell, this is a very versatile word.
